The Parish Council have agreed to provide bi-monthly updates to keep you more informed about council work. These updates will alternate with the bi-monthly Parish Council meetings which residents are welcome to attend. As part of the update we will be providing some background on your five Councillors to help everyone get to know us a little better. To start off I would like to share some information about myself:

David Orme:
I have been a member of Shalden Parish Council for 12 years now and for the first eight of those, was also a member of EHDC sitting on their planning committee. My full time occupation is that of an Air Traffic Controller at London Centre, a relatively demanding but
incredibly interesting role which I have been doing for more than thirty years. A father of two teenagers ensures that life is hectic but I do love a challenge. Being given the opportunity to Chair the Parish Council is a privilege, I hope to combine my previous council experiences with those from my professional life, especially around engagement and communications, to help the new Parish Council provide the very best support possible to the Parish.

Council News
Councillor Whitcher attended the Harvest Supper and Gardeners' Club lunch which both had a great turn out of residents. A comment has been received that Shalden Lane doesn't have a road name signpost as you enter in from The Avenue which can lead to confusion for delivery drivers. This will be taken forward and we will report back on the outcome in due course.
Councillor Wood has compiled some photographic evidence to report the haunching and surface dressing build up where flooding has been experienced on Shalden Lane near the Church. The intent is that this will be reported to Highways and a response will be shared with you once we have it. It has also been noted that reported potholes are being repaired - a particularly nasty one on Southwood Road has been filled - do log details on the HCC website as you note any Highways issues.
Councillor Jones has the role of link Councillor to the Village Hall Committee and reports that the Committee are working on preparing the hall for the winter ahead, improving the car park area and exploring grants for insulation improvements. The Village Hall Committee are also overseeing the Fireworks display which will be held at 6pm on Saturday 4 November at The Recreation Ground.
The Clerk, Katherine Horton, has done a great piece of work to identify a significantly better electric supply contract which the Parish Council agreed to, realising a significant reduction in our annual energy costs.

The Police responded to an incident on the B.O.A.T adjacent to the Golf Club where some 4X4 drivers were reported filling in a trench created to protect private land from motor vehicle access. A work team was formed the next afternoon and we cleared the trench restoring the protection. Rights of Way maintenance and protection is very important to the PC and Councillor Taylor, working with Helen Dudley (our Footpath Warden) is ensuring we keep on top of it.

In closing, do note that we welcome your comments, questions and information and your attendance at PC meetings (the next one is Weds 29th Nov). The Councillors' contact information and meeting details are readily available on the Parish Council Website at www.shaldenpc.org
