Footpaths

Shalden’s footpaths
We have around 8 miles of official rights of way (footpaths and byways) in the parish of Shalden, providing enjoyable walking and access to the countryside.
The footpaths are walked regularly by Helen Dudley, our volunteer footpath warden. Helen has lived in the parish for 8 years and is involved with Walk Alton and Alton’s annual walking festival in May.
Helen works with the Hampshire Countryside Service (part of Hampshire County Council) and the local Ramblers Association to ensure our footpaths remain safe and accessible.
The Parish Council are looking for volunteers to join a working group that provides additional help to keep the parish’s footpaths in good condition, particularly in the summer months when paths can quickly become overgrown. Tasks will include strimming, litter picking etc, and if you’d like to offer a few hours occasional help please email the Parish Clerk on clerk.shaldenpc@gmail.com.
Something not right?
If you spot any issues with access, stiles or fly tipping while out walking in the parish, please take a photo and then report the details through this website:

Many organisations, including EHDC, are now using What 3 Words to allow precise locations to be confirmed. More details are available here:

If you have enjoyed the footpaths of Shalden and are looking for new challenges, Walking in Hampshire https://www.walkinginengland.co.uk/hants has hundreds of walks to download and print for free.
John Harris (the custodian of the Hampshire website) said ‘There is so much walking information on the web but it is difficult to find. Walking in Hampshire (part of the Walking in England website) has brought it together in one place so whether you are walking from home, or away on holiday, you will be able to find a walk suitable for you’.
With walks from half a mile to twelve miles plus long, and a note of suitability for pushchairs and wheelchairs, everyone can find a walk to enjoy.
